quin·cunx

ˈkwinˌkəNGks/ noun

  1. an arrangement of five objects with four at the corners of a square or rectangle and the fifth at its center, used for the five on dice or playing cards, and in planting trees.  2. a single-audience-member-viewed VIDEO installation for the heart of the Little Five points community, of the L5P community, Atlanta, GA.

Quincunx explores curiosity in multiple things coming together; making a new whole, identity. Little Five Points has long been the haven of a community of identities coming-together. It has been a place of inspiration, abstraction, exploration, and alternative perspective and expression in Atlanta since its inception. It’s history lies in constant revitalization, restoration, and travel (considering its former hub south of the space for the first streetcars of Atlanta). Community participation was essential to the process of Quincunx.  Over a four week interval, each Sunday of Little Five Arts Alive,  filming in the epicenter of Little Five took place, documenting fragmented body parts of willing community business owners/members, visitors, and longtime L5Pers.  Individuals selected their hands, chest, stomach, legs, or feet to be filmed...whatever body part they chose would become a part of the final video. In these filming interactions, discovering the community's integration was vital. However, it also revealed the challenges to integration of such a blended community; dark parts of community building that we do not often see.  L5Pers revealed valuable parts they loved about themselves in this questioning of the effects of integration.
